Hall of Fame Champion Dick Hebard

Dick Hebard was a member of Fox Meadow Tennis Club, in Scarsdale, NY, where he excelled in both tennis and platform tennis. During his playing era, he won more platform tennis National Championships than any other man at that time. He won eight National Men's Championships, and was a finalist twice. He also won five National Mixed Doubles titles, and was a finalist twice. He continued to play competitively into his "senior" years, winning the 50-and-over Senior Men's Nationals Platform Tennis Championships. He also served as President of Fox Meadow Tennis Club and the American Platform Tennis Association.

He was also a very fine tennis player, and at the age of fourteen won the National Boy's Singles Championship. In both tennis and platform tennis, he was a relaxed, classic stylist, and he was highly respected by everyone, both partners and opponents.

In 1965, the American Platform Tennis Association honored him by inducting him into the Platform Tennis Hall of Fame and presenting him with the green jacket in recognition of his outstanding achievements.

Richard Hebard passed away Monday October 22, 2007 in  Pompano Beach , Florida at the age of 93 and after several months of ill health. He is survived by Lois, his wife f 0 yrs., and three sons, Richard, Douglas , and Donald; his daughters-in-law, and four granddaughters.   Mr. Hebard was a former member of the Coral Ridge Country Club here he played tennis for a number of years. He was a tennis national boys champion.  He enjoyed happy years at the Hill School and Springfield College where he also playedfootball and was captain of the basketball team.  After serving in the US navy during WWII, he joined his father's firm, R. W. Hebard & Co., Inc. in New York City oing business with clients in South America .

He and his family lived in Scarsdale , NY where he took up the game of paddle tennis and won 17 national championships competing in this winter sport.  Memorials may be made to the Hill School in Pottstown , PA 19464
