APTA’s Final Clinic in the Northeast Garners a Crowd
November 12, 2012
On Saturday, November 10, 2012, the APTA’s “Grow the Sport” effort was brought up to Lakeville in the Northwest corner of Connecticut. It was a resounding success. More than 32 enthusiastic players participated and non-playing spectators stopped by to watch the clinics and the exciting exhibition put on by the PPTA pros.
Juan Martinez-Arraya, an APTA Board member and PPTA pro, along with fellow pros Javier Ferrin and George Wilkinson—all nationally ranked players—conducted four one-hour clinics organized by level of players, providing instruction on strokes, strategy and positioning skills for better play. The pros, with the help of a local tournament experienced player, then put on a spirited and awe-inspiring exhibition of platform tennis being played at its highest level.
Lakeville’s two municipal courts are located on beautiful Lake Wononscopomuc, locally known as Lakeville Lake. Players came from surrounding towns including Sharon, Norfolk, Cornwall and Goshen as well as Salisbury/Lakeville and Millerton, New York. The APTA event was open to the general public and all who attended expressed thanks to the APTA pros for sharing their skills and enthusiasm.
Thanks to the sponsors Wilson and Viking, for their support of the game.
