Unprecedented interest to play in the 39th Annual Brae Burn 'B’ resulted in the 32-team field filling two weeks early, with a wait list that developed to hit double figures. Players converged from all New England states and New York City.

One applicant requested a ''cloudy, cool, calm and rain-free day, and we delivered on three out of four. With a weather forecast that worsened steadily in the few days before the tournament, intermittent showers became the norm during the day, with the heaviest falling during the final. (No photos of the winners are available due to the near drowning of the camera.)

Members of one of our host clubs, The Country Club of Brookline, Nate Burns and Jake Garmey prevailed in a three-set final, climbing out from a 5-40, 3-4 hole in the final set to win 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4. Burns and Garmey have been serious contenders in recent years. Former Yale soccer and tennis coach, Steve Griggs, teamed with a prominent recruit, Scott Staniar, to provide an interesting story line and very worthy opposition in the final.

Judy Helm, Nancy Walthall, Bruce Pierce, and Mike Kellogg formed a great team of hut commanders that made the day flow quite efficiently. Our huge thanks to them, and to our host clubs, without whom the tournament does not happen: The Country Club, Weston Golf Club, Wellesley Country Club, and Brae Burn Country Club.
