Ocean Pines Welcomes Impromptu Exhibition
DELMARVANOW.COM OCTOBER 13, 2009
Chip Morrow, Tim McAvoy and friends went to Rehoboth Beach this year on vacation, where Morrow reached out to the folks at Ocean Pines and arranged an exhibition/playing event with his group of 14 and a local group of approximately 60 players.
According to McAvoy, "The weather was perfect and all four courts (ground level asphalt/concrete) were busy as we played a 20 minute exhibition and then had two of our team rotate on each court with two folks from Ocean Pines. The enthusiasm was incredible and we played from 5:00-7:00...and as Betty said in the article, the time flew by. The folks from Ocean Pines were so appreciative, it was just fantastic."
The local press, DelmarvaNow.com picked up the story. (Article no longer available.)

"When the sun is down and the snow has frosted the ground, you'll see elegantly fit men and women from their 20s into their 60s in shorts, sweats, Under Armour, fleece half-zip pullovers, vests, and maybe hats, peeling off layers of sportswear as they work up a sweat chasing a lime-green ball around with a paddle under the lights of a paddle-tennis court — and then warming up and chatting over beer, sodas and pizzas in the paddle hut." Platform tennis players think inside the box
DAVID WALDSTEIN, THE STAR-LEDGER NEW JERSEY THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2008
"For most of the racket-wielding world, the first fallen leaf of autumn is a signal to pack away the sunscreen and retreat to the halogen-lit refuge of indoor courts."
"But for a growing stratum of a cultish group of athletes who, each fall, happily exchange strings for foam core paddles, the annual dip in temperature is a time to rejoice and make the yearly migration over to the aluminum courts and chicken-wire walls of platform tennis."
