2020 Indy Invitational Grand Prix Men’s Preview

October 20, 2020
Indianapolis, IN

After a high-quality start to the season in Connecticut, the APTA Grand Prix tour heads to Indianapolis this weekend with another draw stacked with top players. Only one team that played in Darien is in the Indianapolis draw, which will showcase the best players from the Midwest.

Marek Czerwinski and Graham McNerney are the favorites to win Indianapolis. They began last season on fire, winning both the Lake Invitational and Chicago Charities, and although they cooled off a bit after that, they still finished the season as the fourth-ranked team in the country.

Scott Kahler and Filip Rams, the only team in both the Darien and Indianapolis draws, made quite a splash in Darien. After prevailing in an epic battle against Chris Humphreys and Nathan LeFevre, 7-5, 6-7, 7-6, they went on to upset the second-ranked team of John Hughes and Marc Powers in another three-setter. They won the first set of their semifinal contest with Juan Arraya and Mark Parsons but had to retire from that match when Rams aggravated the calf injury he sustained earlier in the day. If they can repeat their form from last weekend, this team has a good shot to win in Indy.

Tyler Fraser and Adam Morgan played predominantly with other partners last season, with Fraser reaching #10 in the rankings with Alex Bancila and Morgan earning the ninth spot with William Colmar. The combination of Morgan’s consistency and Fraser’s dynamic play make this a team to watch.

Other highly ranked teams to watch in Indianapolis include Nathan Crick/Randy Lofgren, Jeronie Barnes/Dane Schmidgall, and Tom Murphy/Casey Watt.

You can watch all the action from the Indy Invitational Grand Prix on Saturday on the APTA YouTube channel.
