The New APTA Tour

Application RFPs for the 2021-2022 APTA Tour are due by end of March

THE NEW APTA TOUR

Starting in the 2021-2022 season, the APTA Tour will be the official name of all the tournaments that the APTA will live stream during a season. This includes four Grand Prix tournaments, four to six selected non-Grand Prix NRTs, and the National Championships. Results from all of these events will be tabulated and the women’s and men’s winners will receive The APTA Cup.

EVOLUTION

The APTA Board and many top-level players discussed the importance of featuring paddle’s major tournaments and allowing players to plan their calendars at the beginning of the season. The new structure ensures that Grand Prix tournaments will be the major events, with prize money, top weighting, and a season-long race for the APTA Cup, which offers even more prize money. The APTA Tour Grand Prix and NRTs present an opportunity for all regions to highlight their platform tennis community and entice the top players to travel for quality tournaments and big points.

WHAT’S NEW

Next year, 1) All Grand Prix tournaments will offer at least $10,000 in prize money; 2) APTA Tour Non-Grand Prix NRTs may have prize money; 3) All Grand Prix events will be weighted 4.25; 4) The APTA Cup will offer prestige and even more prize money; 5) At least four more events will be on Live Streaming.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION

The number of non-Grand Prix NRTs depends on the number of applications (RFPs) from Tournament Directors around the country and their ability to match the criteria the APTA has laid out for these events. RFPs are due by the end of March 2021. The Selection Committee will present proposed APTA Tour selections to the Super Tournament Committee and then to the APTA Board for sign-off at the annual APTA Board Meeting in May. 2021 APTA Tour RFP
