Commentary

Saturday 4:00 pm: MEN - Congratultions to Mike Marino and Brian Uihlein for their victory over Mike Cochrane and Scott Estes. It was an intense three set match played to a large crowd of spectators. Today's play, under a cloudless and unusually warm sky, was lively and spring-like as all the men's draws were played out at Glen View club.

Saturday Late: MEN - The depth of talent at the top of the men's draw is impressive. Missing only a few familliar names, the seeded teams at this year's Charities cover two complete generations of paddle and an array of styles. We have masters of zen-like patience, big swinging drivers, loud ones, quiet ones, and one court amusing itself with how many times the guys could tag each other. Fifteen of the sixteen seeds made it to the round of 16. At the end of the day, with the quarters complete, the semis are set up with Berka-Eberle playing Cochrane-Estes, and Bondurant-Johnson playing Marino-Uihlein. The quarter reprieve promises to be just as exciting with Bancila-Easterbrook vs. Arraya-Stulac and Lubow-DeRose vs. Gambino-Ohlmuller.

Saturday 5:00 pm: WOMEN - Congratulations to Kerri Delmonico and Aila Main on their victory over Heather Prop and Lynne Schneebeck in the Women's Open. It was a beautiful platform tennis day and the play was outstanding. Both finalist teams had to defeat a string of seeds to get to the final. Delmonico-Main worked their way through Delaney-Mangan and Cottingham-Hayward on their way to the final. Prop-Schneebeck had wins over Ohlmuller-Sheldon and Doten-Schwartz.

Saturday 12:30 pm: WOMEN - Delmonico-Main and Prop-Schneebeck advance to the women's final.

Friday evening: MEN'S 90'S - In the men's 90's Clamage-Johnson took the title over Embreee-McAvoy.

Friday 7:45 pm: WOMEN - By 7:45 the last women's quarter final was decided, with #1 seeds Delaney-Mangan moving on to the semis.

Friday 7:00 pm: WOMEN - As of 7 pm, top seeds Delaney-Mangan and 8th seeds Jaffe-Tarzian were starting their 3rd set in a marathon quarter final match. In other quarter final round action Prop-Schneebeck beat Doten-Schwartz in three, Ohlmuller-Sheldon bested Budde-VanCalcar in two, and Delmonico-Main advanced past Cottingham-Hayward in two.

Men's Final Marino-Uihlein & Cochrane-Estes
Just a typical point. (gun noise is from the skeet range)

If you can play like this, maybe you can make the Chicago Charities finals too.
