Snowy Play at the Colorado State Mixed Open

Open Draw   "A" Draw

The 2012 Colorado State Mixed Open was attended by a record 29 teams. Teams came from all over the Denver area as well as Boulder and Vail. As the day progressed, the weather turned snowy, energizing all teams. The top four seeded teams in both the "A" draw and the "Open" draw prevailed to the semis where some very competitive matches were played.

In the "A" draw semis, State Champ Anne Koo and her husband Jack were upset in a three-set brawl by the upstart team of Sandy Macartney and Jim Hillary, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. The #2 seeded duo of Biz Dominick and Brad Talbot were also ousted by a new pairing in Elizabeth Norton and Tommy Wessel, 6-2, 7-6. Norton/Wessel prevailed in the snowy final over Macartney/Hillary, 6-0, 6-3.

In the Open semis, defending champs Deedee Schneiders/Cary Hodges overcame a deep second-set deficit to slip by long-time competitor Sherrie Farris and new-guy-in town Jay Schwab, 6-1, 7-5. Meanwhile, the other Open semi saw two Boulder teams pitted in a three-set duel, with Claire Joyce and Curt Corrigan bouncing back to defeat Jill Isenhart and Tom Houlihan, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Joyce/Corrigan showed their superior fitness level down the stretch by taking the final over Schneiders/Hodges, 6-4, 7-5.
