40 players participated on November 8, 2008 in the Delaware State Paddle Tennis Championships at Greenville Country Club. Teams from Western PA, Maryland, Philadelphia and Delaware played through some challenging early AM weather and enjoyed a very competitive PCQ tournament. The Greenville Tennis staff hosted a full day of great paddle, favors/prizes, food and drink for all the players at one of our sport’s finest Paddle Huts.
The top seeded defending champs- Todd Marvin and Scott Falatek- won again this year in a 3 set final against the new and formidable team of Vlatko Najdek and Bruce Redpath by a score of 6-0, 5-7, 6-0. Marvin/Falatek had an easier time in their semi-final match as they won convincingly over Greenville’s paddle pro- Simon Peppiatt- and Peter Redpath. Najdek/B Redpath cruised past Ted Easter and Jeff Lyon in the other semi-final match.
In other match play, Steve Reineger and Andrew Hocker exacted some measure of revenge by winning the quarter-final consolation match over the always tough team of Bruce Sopko and Drew Friel. Pittsburgh’s Allan Quackenbush and Craig Pitcarin earned the Reprieve title by defeating Tom Burt and Brendan Kirk while Chris Packer and Brian Aguillar won the “gut bucket” title.
Given the success of this year’s event, the tournament will look to grow into a full 32 team draw next year as Scott Falatek and Greenville’s Todd Marvin attempt to “three-peat” as champs.
