Region V

Date:  Saturday, April 17, 2021
Location:  Chicago area clubs (northern suburbs)
Contact:  John Watrous
Entry:  APTA Online Entry
  Entry Fee $100 per team
Entry Deadline – Monday, April 12th (No guaranteed refund after this date)
Limit 16 teams in each draw
All players must be current APTA members or pay a $30 Limited Membership Fee, good for one tournament. Membership may be purchased during tournament entry.
Details: Unfortunately, this year’s entry fee is lower because things have to be different for COVID reasons.
Most likely 4 tournaments in all; an A Flight, B Flight, C Flight, and D Flight
  • However, only 16 teams per draw so as to limit traveling between clubs
  • This means there may only be 64 teams in the field whereas the limit has been 128 in the past!
  • However, more flights might be added if enough courts become available
Limited snacks and drinks will be provided so bring extra if you think you’ll need them.
All levels are welcome and encouraged to participate.
All teams guaranteed at least 3 matches (assuming a full draw).
Prizes awarded to main draw champions, runners-up, & back-draw champs of each flight.
Teams will be assigned to a flight based on players’ playing level with the goal of having skill levels of each team in each flight be as even as possible.
Very sad change this year: no end of tournament party. It’ll be back next year, though!
Favors:  TBD...stay tuned
Timing:  First round matches expected to begin at 12pm.
All matches (except for main draw championships) should be over by roughly 6:30pm.
Championship matches are currently expected to occur at different sites unlike years past.
More details:  Matches are best of 3 sets. Main draw matches play a full third set if needed. Back draw matches that split first two sets will play a super tiebreaker (first to 10 points) in lieu of a third set.
Participants must live in or belong to a club in Region V.
Remember, in order to qualify to play in the Illinois Married Mixed, teams must be married before, during, and after the tournament.
