Milwaukee Brews a Superb Women’s Tournament

NOVEMBER 1, 2011

milwaukee_open_2007_logoChelsea Nusslock scored her first APTA tournament win, combining with partner Mary Doten to conquer the Milwaukee Open draw. They beat opponents Heather Prop and Nancy Budde 6-3, 6-1. Prop/Budde were the winners through misfortune in the semi-finals, when their challengers Sally Cottingham and Liz Hayward had to retire. Hayward blew out a calf muscle and was later put into a walking cast. However, Hayward, known to make the best of a bad situation, was planning on dressing up for Halloween as “Puss in Boot.”

Over 10 teams entered to play on an unlikely sunny tournament day in Milwaukee. The winners of the Consolation round were Nathalie Lemieux and Jessica Guyaux. And in the category of “small miracles,” all the teams in the Last Chance round tied.
