Nor’Eastern Aptly Named as Snow Swirled All Day
January 22, 2012
Marblehead, MA
Not much is the same and true but the weather for the Nor’Eastern tournament. The brisk wind drove snow and low temperatures onto the three courts at Eastern Yacht Club, but nothing could chill the spirits of this intrepid group of players. Teams from as far as New York City and Western Massachusetts traveled to scenic Marblehead Neck to compete. Tournament Organizer Chip Leveroni and Tournament Director Dan McCormick shoveled snow and cleared the courts and kept the players well fed so that the show could go on. The first match started at 8:30 AM and the last concluded at 7:00 PM.

Soaked hats and gloves lay limply around the paddle hut, but the women were lively and brave. The heaters were going all day, making the courts look like hot tubs at a ski resort. If you were lucky, you could find a hot spot and warm up your feet.
A great big thank you to Kristin Goedkoop for hosting lunch at her lovely house just steps away from the club. The chicken and rice soup got rave reviews. Kristin and her partner, Jenny Williamson, had the incredible distinction of losing to all of the back draw winners. Quite a feat!
The goodie bags were quite impressive. Thanks to Paul Pruett, a paddle enthusiast, who provided the emergency chocolate and mojito mints. The EYC stemless wine glasses were also a big hit.
Congratulations to all the winners and finalists!
