Changes in Short Hills Men’s Invitational Draw Format:

  • All applications will be accepted for the Men’s NRT Grand Prix together.
  • From the applications, the top 16 Teams will play in an Elite Tournament.  These teams will be named within 24 hours of the end of the Boston Open.  Points are FROZEN as off that time. This event will be played in ONE DAY, Saturday, INCLUDING THE FINAL.
  • The Men’s Open draw will include all teams, other than the Men’s 16 in the elite, will have guaranteed points and a money purse for the top finishers. This event will be played in ONE DAY, Saturday, INCLUDING THE FINAL.
  • Points for the Men’s open will be rated, AT A MINIMUM, as a 2.0 event which translate as semi-finals finish would equal 36 points, which would be a 11th place finish a regular Grand Prix Event and winning this open event will give you 50 points, which would be a 6th place finish in a regular Grand Prix event.
  • Prize money for the Grand Prix events will be a total purse of $20,000, split among The Grand Prix events - the Men’s Elite, Men’s Open and Women’s Open events.
Explanation of why the change of format for the Short Hills Men’s Invitational:
There has been strong demand amongst top tournament level men’s players to explore a one-day tourney format. Short Hills presented this format asking that we try it as a test for their Grand Prix on the men’s draws. After much discussion and deliberation, the Men’s Players Committee proposed to the Board that we accept the Short Hills request as a test case and the full APTA Board approved the proposal. We think it is important to actively consider and test new ideas as the game continues to evolve.
