A Few Average Joes Rise Above Average

It was a great day on the courts; a fine showing for a bunch of Average Joe's. In the end, a few raised the Average....

In the Main draw, the father and son team of Mike and Ryan Carr beat out the talented team of Hugh Duffy and Skip Young 6-3, 6-4.

The Consolation match was won by the father and son team of Tom and Jeff Riggio, taking down the Newport Nomads, Rick Meffert and Evan Smith 6-3, 6-3.

The Consolation Reprieve was eventually won by the ever popular workhorse Bill Halsey ridden by his faithful but completely inept jockey Peter Evans, who crawled across the finish line over Eric Dahl and Rob Coster 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. The workhorse's owner and handler, Rebecca Halsey, said in a statement last night, that she believes that the most humane treatment, based on yesterday's performance, is to retire her stud and shoot the jockey!!!

The Quarter Reprieve was won by the dynamic duo of Kevin Joyce and Tom Davidson who battled and beat the skilled squad of Brian Langille and Brad Kronauer: 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.

Thanks to the Newport contingent of Rick Meffert, Evan Smith, Tim Sternberg and Matt Buechner for their annual pilgrimage to this tournament. Also, Frank Grande traveling from Pennsylvania and Jeff Hess from New Jersey, great having you with us!

Finally, a special thanks to Rob Coster and his company Court Pro who sponsored this tournament. Rob is a great contributor to the game and a wonderful ambassador for this sport!

Thanks again gents, until next year!
