Annual SIS Tournament Benefits Breast Cancer Patients

March 2018
Rochexter, NY

Another incredible SIS Paddle tournament is in the record books! This year’s records include the many out of town players that braved the record amount of snowfall that came the night before the tournament. SIS is a day of fun, sisterhood, and competitive play, with proceeds going to the Sustain Inspire Survive (SIS) Organization, which is committed to improving the quality of life of patients struggling financially through breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

We had 188 players, supported by a dedicated group of volunteers – other players, friends, and SIS board members. Ladies braved the driving conditions from Pittsburgh and Toronto. Every slot of the draw was filled, with substitute teams filling in for last minute cancellations, a big accomplishment by all involved. Pink attire was encouraged, and players found many creative ways to show their sartorial support, with prizes for the best outfits. Players competed in 12 bejeweled levels (think Amethyst, Emeralds, Rubies, etc.) with three rounds guaranteed. After play was done, everyone convened for a fun dinner party, with chances to bid in an auction on an outstanding array of donated items. Many local businesses as well as individuals were instrumental in providing these items and including some of the food and drink as well for lunch and dinner. Throughout the day, the emphasis was on fun and inclusiveness with a lot of paddle thrown in. Pictures were taken and shared followed by a wonderful video slide show sent to all which truly captured the spirit and fun. Kudos to coordinator Lisa Hayes and her team of volunteers!
