Jack Watson and his wife passed away within days of each other. Both were prolific players and volunteers in Chicagoland for decades.

The APTA is saddened by the loss of Jack L Watson, an inductee of the Class of 1998 Hall of Fame, and his wife, Sue Watson. Known as Jack & Sue in the Chicago paddle tennis arena from the 1970s-1990s, when they weren’t playing, they volunteered at many, many tournaments in Chicago. A feat for the ages —Jack had a 13-year run as the Illinois State 45s Champion.

From the Hall of Fame archives: When the first platform tennis court was built at Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park, IL, Jack participated in the introductory exhibition and then continued to give clinics and promote the game. His biggest contribution to the sport was his work in organizing league play in Chicago and serving as chair or co-chair of both regional and national championships for more than 20 years.

Nationally, he won the National Senior Men’s 50+ in 1985 and was a finalist in 1986 and 1987. He won the National Senior Men’s 55+ in 1989 and was a finalist in 1991. In the National Senior Men’s 60+, he was a finalist in both 1993 and 1994.

Married 65 years, the couple passed away on July 20, 2025 (Sue) and July 24, 2025 (Jack), just four days apart. The APTA extends its condolences to the Watson family and friends from around the country who had the pleasure of knowing them, both on and off the court.
